Supplied And Installed By CVS
Miscreants intent on stealing your van have come up with a new, high-tech method of overriding the immobilisation system. They do this by connecting either a laptop or an electronic data interchange (EDI) key into the van’s on-board diagnostics (OBD) socket and programming a brand new key into the engine control unit (ECU).
The thieves first arm themselves with a Tibbe lock pick. These items can easily be purchased over the internet, and they are intended to be used in emergencies should a van or car owner accidentally lock their keys inside the vehicle, or they have mislaid them or they are malfunctioning.
The pick will unlock all doors and disable the alarm system. It also provides the key combination for your vehicle so a new key can be cut with a new, working chip, or they can just bypass the ignition using the code obtained via the Tibbe lock pick. All this can be done in a matter of minutes, all without making any noise or causing any damage to the vehicle.
Once they have a new key, they can return to the vehicle and use the key to obtain access. When inside, they can connect their laptop or EDI key into the OBD socket and program the ECU to accept the new key. The ECU is fooled into believing the correct key has been used. The thieves can then easily start the vehicle and drive it away.
At CVS Van Hire in London we can provide you with an OBD/ECU Connection Protection Device. This device simply encloses the OBD socket within a secure box. The box is then attached to the crash bar that sits behind the dashboard. The box can only be opened using the correct key.
We can install this device to your vehicle with fifteen minutes. There is no need for any interference with the OBD socket or ECU itself, so your warranty remains valid.
If you do lose the key to your OBD/ECU Connection Protection Device then a new key code can be provided via International Security Register (ISR) Protection security protocols.
